Native American Heritage Month

Native American Heritage Month
Showcase Display
November is Native American Heritage Month and students at Mt. View gained new knowledge and understanding of Native American culture. Mrs. Bowcutt, our Indian Education instructor, partnered with Mrs. Ranney to present information about WA tribes as well as drumming and singing with classes in the library. We had some wonderful displays on the bulletin boards and in the display cases created by Mrs. Bowcutt.

Kids played Native American games, used to improve eye/hand coordination, in PE with Mr. Corey. They drummed with Miss Hays after reading "Together We Drum, Our Hearts Beat as One". Students learned weaving, Totem Pole art and blanket designs with Mrs. Carey.

The culmination of our month was a presentation and dance performance for 1st and 2nd graders by Mr. and Mrs. Littlesun, parents of 2nd grader, Pride. His little sister, Ruthie, also participated. We thank them for giving us this wonderful gift of their time and talents. The students were enthralled!
